One thousand years ago, Maori travelled overland to Milford in search of the much prized pounamu (greenstone). These treks from the east used traditional pathways across passes such as Mackinnon Pass on the Milford Track. Today, the Milford Encounter tour follows in the footsteps of the ancient Maori and takes you deep into Fiordland National Park. Discover the history of this world famous region, travel through awe-inspiring landscapes, and see glacier carved valleys and dramatic cascading waterfalls.

Journey through the Homer tunnel, a 1.2km tunnel drilled through solid rock. Hear the legends of the gold miners and how they prospected for gold in the rugged ranges. View the beautiful Mirror lakes before navigating over the footbridge at the imposing and spectacular Chasm. Then board the Scenic Cruise for a 1hr 45min interactive and exploration of Milford Sound. See the imposing sight of Mitre Peak rising 1,692m (5,560ft) from the sea as roving guides keep you informed with local knowledge and experience of the Fiord.
